About Rev Mark N. Simmons, Pastor

Rev. Mark N. Simmons accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at the age of 26 in October 1997. He has answered the call to serve God, his  church and the community.

Born on April 9, 1971, he is the only son of Barrett and Ruth Simmons. He grew up in Westampton, N.J., and was educated there in the school system. He graduated from Rancocas Valley Regional High School in Mount Holly in 1989.

He attended Cheyney University on a partial basketball scholarship for two years and transferred to Glassboro State College, now Rowan University in 1991, where he majored in History.

He is currently employed by United Parcel Service. He previously worked for FedEx for 13 years.

On November 16, 1997, he was baptized by the late Rev. David Foreman, Sr., former pastor of North Baptist Church. He served as a Trustee for four years and was ordained a Deacon at North Baptist Church on September 13, 2009 by the late Rev. Wendell F. McGinnis, Jr.

He preached his first sermon at North Baptist Church on April 3, 2011. He loves to study and read God’s word. In his spare time, he enjoys missionary work and sharing the Gospel with the unbelieved.

He completed is studies under the Bethany Baptist Association and was ordained at North Baptist Church on Dec. 11, 2016.

On June 14, 2017, Rev. Simmons was called to Pastor North Baptist Church. He was formally installed as the church’s Pastor on Sept. 10, 2017.

A servant man of God, he has served in numerous ministries at North Baptist, including the Tape Ministry, Publicity Ministry and Van Ministry. He also served as president of the Young Adult Ministry and took on the responsibility of cleaning the church.

Currently, he is the Adult Sunday Bible Study School Teacher and Executive Director of the Food Bank Ministry.

He is a proud member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated.

He is married to Deaconess Janelle Simmons. They are the parents of two daughters, Kayla Susan, and Justine Noeline. The family resides in Westampton.

ABOUT DEACONS BOARD CHAIRMAN RONNIE HAWKINS

Deacon Ronnie Hawkins joined North Baptist Church in 1959 at age 7 and has been a faithful member since then as a servant Leader who loves the Lord and God’s people.

Born in Philadelphia, he is the fifth of 10 children of the late Deacon Calvin Hawkins Sr., and Margaret Hawkins. He grew up in North Woodbury and was educated in the Deptford public schools.

He graduated from Deptford High School and earned an Associate degree in Education from then Gloucester County College. He attended the Koinonia Bible School at Union Temple Baptist Church in Bridgeton. He also attended classes at Philadelphia Bible University in Langhorne, Pa., where he maintained a 4.0 average.

In 1986, he was ordained as a Deacon at North Baptist Church under the late Rev. William T. Suiter. He has served as Chairman of the Deacons Ministry since 1989, and is currently the longest-serving Deacon.

Deacon Ronnie has taught Sunday School at North Baptist for more than 30 years. He has been the Sunday School Superintendent for over 25 years. He also sings with the Mass Choir and the Male Chorus and serves on the Van Ministry.

He is married to Deaconess Susan Hawkins. They are the proud parents of Janelle A. Simmons and Michael J. Hawkins. They have five grandchildren: Kayla, Justine, Preston, Mya, and Ava.

Deacon Ronnie has been employed for the past 28 years as a laborer with Construction and General Laborers Local 172 for Winzinger Inc.

Deacon Ronnie enjoys sports of all kind, photography and drawing. His greatest joy is spending time with his grandchildren.
